As in life, in families, truth alone can be a deadly weapon. Speaking the truth without compassion can destroy love. Some parents tend to focus so much on proving the hows and whys of their being right that they ignore the need for compassion. This often leads to bitterness, disappointment and hostility. When in that type of situation, no amount of fact (i.e. truth alone) will penetrate the bitterness and disappointment. It just leads to more distance between family members.
